Do you give prices or live gold rates on your website?

No. We do not publish live rates or online quotes. The value of any piece depends on its karat, its actual weight and whether it contains stones or non-gold parts, and none of that can be confirmed from a photo or a phone description. Bring your jewellery to the shop and we will test, weigh and quote it free of charge while you watch.

Do I need an appointment?

No appointment is needed. AGN is a walk-in shop. Come by during opening hours — Monday to Friday 12pm to 7pm, or Saturday 12pm to 5pm — and we will look at your items right at the counter.

How much does an evaluation cost?

Accepted Answer

Nothing. Testing, weighing and quoting your jewellery is free, with no obligation to sell. If you do not like the number, you take your items home and there is no charge.

What do I need to bring with me?

Accepted Answer

Bring your gold items and a valid piece of government-issued photo ID. Ontario second-hand dealer rules require the seller's identification to be recorded for a purchase. You do not need receipts, certificates or original boxes.

What kinds of gold do you buy?

Accepted Answer

Gold jewellery of all kinds — chains, rings, bracelets, bangles, earrings, pendants, brooches and charms — plus scrap and broken gold, dental gold, gold coins and small bars. We buy 10k, 14k, 18k, 22k and 24k.

Will you buy broken or damaged jewellery?

Yes. Broken clasps, snapped chains, bent bangles, single earrings and pieces with missing stones are all fine. Damage does not reduce the weight of the gold itself, so a broken chain is valued the same way as an intact one of equal karat and weight.

How do you test gold?

Accepted Answer

We start with a visual inspection for karat stamps and maker's marks, then confirm purity with an acid test on a testing stone. Stamps can be missing, worn or inaccurate, so the test is what determines the karat we work with. All of this happens on the counter in front of you.

How do you weigh my gold?

Accepted Answer

On a calibrated jeweller's scale that you can see. Items are sorted by karat first, because mixing 10k with 18k on one weighing would misprice both. You are welcome to watch each reading.

Is gold-plated or gold-filled jewellery worth anything?

Accepted Answer

Generally very little. Plated and filled items have only a microscopic layer of gold over a base metal, so recovery is not economical. We will tell you honestly at the counter if a piece is plated rather than solid, and there is no charge for finding out.

Do you buy gold with diamonds or gemstones still set?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We will assess the piece as a whole and explain how the stones factor in. If a piece has genuine resale value as jewellery rather than as scrap, we will tell you that too.

Do you buy silver or platinum?

Accepted Answer

Our focus is gold jewellery. Bring any silver or platinum items along with your gold and we will let you know at the counter whether we can make an offer on them.

How are you paid — cash, cheque or transfer?

Accepted Answer

Cash, on the spot, in the same visit. There is no waiting period, no cheque in the mail and no transfer to arrange.

Is there a minimum amount of gold you will buy?

Accepted Answer

No minimum. A single earring is welcome. Many customers start with one small piece to see how the process works, then come back with the rest.

Do I have to sell once I get a quote?

Accepted Answer

Never. The evaluation is free and non-binding. Take the number home, compare it, sleep on it. Plenty of our customers return days or weeks later.

Can you quote me over the phone?

Accepted Answer

We can explain the process, our hours and what to bring over the phone, and we are happy to do so at (416) 551-6400. We cannot quote a price without testing and weighing the item, because a phone description cannot establish purity or exact weight.

Do you buy gold from outside Toronto?

Yes. Customers come to us from across the Greater Toronto Area — Scarborough, Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Mississauga, Brampton, Pickering, Ajax and beyond. Everything is done in person at the shop.

Monday to Friday from 12pm to 7pm, Saturday from 12pm to 5pm. We are closed on Sundays.

How long does a visit take?

Most visits take between ten and twenty minutes. Larger mixed lots take longer because each karat group is sorted, tested and weighed separately.

Is my visit private?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Evaluations happen at our counter with the door closed to the street traffic, and we do not discuss customers' items or transactions with anyone outside the legally required purchase record.

Can I sell jewellery I inherited?

Accepted Answer

Yes, provided the items are yours to sell and you can present valid photo ID. We recommend having estate pieces checked for maker's marks and antique value first — we look for those ourselves before treating anything as scrap.

What if my jewellery has no karat stamp?

Accepted Answer

That is very common with older and handmade pieces. The acid test determines the karat regardless of whether a stamp is present, worn away or wrong.
