Selling bullion

Sell gold bullion in Toronto without shipping it to a stranger

Mailing bullion to an online dealer means insuring it, losing sight of it, and waiting for someone you will never meet to decide what it was. At AGN the bar never leaves the desk: it is verified in front of you and paid for the same visit, at a price posted publicly on this site.

Indicative only, for recognised 1 oz .9999 gold bars and coins. The figure moves with the market and is confirmed in store before any transaction. How our pricing works.

How your total is calculated

  1. 1. Fine gold content. A 1 oz Maple contains one ounce. A Krugerrand also contains one ounce despite weighing 33.93 g. A 22 karat bangle contains 91.7% of its weight. We establish the actual fine gold in what you brought.
  2. 2. The posted buy price. Our buy price per ounce for recognised bullion is posted publicly and refreshed hourly on this page.
  3. 3. Multiply. That is the offer. There are no handling fees, assay charges or testing charges taken off the top.

The visit, step by step

  1. Gold being examined and tested at the AGN desk
    01

    Identify and sort

Every item is identified first: refiner, mint, year, purity and format. Coins that may carry collector value above metal are set aside rather than weighed into a bullion lot.

  2. A gold bar being weighed on a calibrated scale
    02

    Verify and weigh

Weight to 0.01 g on a calibrated scale, callipered dimensions, ultrasound on larger bars, serial numbers matched to assay cards. You see every reading as it is taken.

  3. Canadian dollar bills being handed across the shop desk
    03

Fine gold content multiplied by the posted buy price. ID is recorded as Ontario second-hand dealer rules require, and you are paid cash the same visit.

What to bring

The metal, as it is

Sealed or opened assay cards, tubes, flips, safety deposit envelopes, cloth bags. Do not clean, polish or repackage anything — original condition helps verification.

Government photo ID

Ontario's second-hand dealer rules require identification for the transaction. A driver's licence, passport or provincial photo card all work.

Original paperwork, if you have it

Purchase receipts, bank documentation or assay certificates speed things up. Nothing is refused for lacking them.

A rough inventory for large lots

For anything over a handful of ounces, a written count helps both of us confirm nothing is missed during the check.

Questions bullion sellers ask us

Will you buy just one coin?

Yes. The posted price is the same for one ounce as for fifty. There is no minimum and no worse rate for small sellers.

What if a bar fails verification?

We tell you immediately, show you which test it failed, and there is no charge. We will not buy metal we cannot verify, and we will not quietly lowball it either.

Do you pay cash for large amounts?

Cash is available for typical transaction sizes and we can arrange settlement for larger positions — call (416) 551-6400 before you come so it is ready.

Can I sell bullion and scrap jewellery together?

Yes, and most people do. Bullion is priced off the posted rate, jewellery off tested karat and weight, then added into a single payout.

Do you need the original packaging?

No. Packaging makes verification faster but never changes the price we pay for verified metal.

How long does it take?

A few coins or bars is usually under twenty minutes. Large mixed lots and silver take longer, so arrive well before closing. Mon–Fri 12pm–7pm · Sat 12pm–5pm · Sun closed.
