Categories we buy every day

Chains and necklaces

Rope, curb, figaro, box, herringbone and franco chains in every karat, including snapped chains and ones that have been tangled in a drawer for years.

Rings and wedding bands

Engagement rings, wedding bands, signet rings, class rings and dress rings — including bands that no longer fit or have worn thin.

Bangles and bracelets

Solid and hollow bangles, tennis bracelets, charm bracelets and cuffs. Bent or crushed pieces are fine; the metal weight is unaffected.

Earrings, including singles

Studs, hoops, drops and jhumkas. A single earring whose partner disappeared is still full weight gold and still worth bringing in.

Pendants, charms and brooches

Religious pendants, lockets, medallions, charms, brooches, tie clips and cufflinks, with or without stones.

Scrap and broken gold

Fragments, clasps, findings, casting sprue, mismatched links and anything else too damaged to wear. Nothing needs to be repaired first.

Gold coins and small bars

Maple Leafs, Krugerrands, sovereigns, ducats and small bullion bars. Coins are examined individually before anything is treated as metal.

Dental gold

Crowns, bridges and inlays. Dental alloys vary widely in purity, so these are tested carefully rather than assumed.

Estate and inherited jewellery

Whole collections welcome. We check every piece for maker's marks and hallmarks before anything is quoted as scrap.

Karats we accept

Karat measures how many parts out of 24 are pure gold. It is the single biggest factor in what a piece is worth, which is why we sort your items into karat groups before anything goes on the scale.

24k: 99.9% gold — bullion and some South Asian jewellery
22k: 91.7% gold — South Asian and Middle Eastern jewellery
18k: 75% gold — European fine and designer jewellery
14k: 58.3% gold — the most common karat in North America
10k: 41.7% gold — the legal minimum to be sold as gold in Canada

Unstamped pieces are no problem at all — the acid test establishes purity whether or not a stamp survives. Read the full karat guide.

What we cannot pay much for

Gold plated (GP, GEP, HGE)

A coating measured in microns over a base metal. There is not enough gold present to recover economically, so plated items generally have no scrap value.

Gold filled (GF, 1/20 12K GF)

Thicker than plating but still bonded to a base core. Rarely worth processing, though we are happy to check any piece for free.

Costume and 925 silver

Marked 925 means sterling silver, not gold, even when the colour looks similar. Bring it along and we will tell you what you have at no charge.

We will always tell you honestly when a piece is plated rather than solid, and there is never a charge for finding out.
