TD Bank gold bars

Thousands of Ontarians bought gold through a TD branch over the years, and those bars turn up constantly — often still sealed in the original TD assay card, sometimes tucked in a safety deposit box since the 1990s. TD did not refine the metal itself: the bars were produced by refiners such as the Royal Canadian Mint, Johnson Matthey and Valcambi and sold under bank packaging.

How we verify it

Serial number on the bar matched against the serial printed on the assay card
Weight and dimensions checked against the refiner's published specification
Ultrasound through the sealed package where the card allows it, so the seal stays intact
Where a card is already opened or damaged, full surface and conductivity testing

Good to know

TD branches no longer sell physical bullion the way they once did, which is why so many of these bars now trade privately.
Never cut a bar out of a sealed card to 'prove' it before selling — an intact card and matching serial makes verification faster, not slower.

A sealed TD card in good condition is the easiest bullion transaction there is — we verify without breaking the seal wherever possible, and you are paid on the spot. Opened, cut-out or missing cards do not disqualify a bar; they simply mean the metal is tested directly, which takes a few minutes longer.
